Tenerife, floating like a jewel in Spain’s Canary Islands, is known not only for its breathtaking landscapes but also for its unique coastal landscapes that inspired many songs from local musicians to international stars like Ed Sheeran’s “Tenerife Sea,” which captures the essence of the island’s azure waters in a beautiful love song.
A slogan used by Tenerife’s tourism agency claims, on Tenerife “there is a beach for every moment,” and visitors do claim the island’s beaches are a tapestry of contrasts, from the wild expanse of El Bollullo’s black sands in the north, where the rhythm of the waves creates a natural symphony, to the tranquility of Benijo Beach, framed by the majestic Roques de Anaga, which offers stunning sunsets and authentic Canarian cuisine.
Playa del Duque in Costa Adeje offers a blend of gray and golden sands, embraced by upscale dining and shopping. Meanwhile, Puerto de la Cruz is home to Playa Jardín, where the black volcanic beach was designed by noted Canary architect Cesar Manrique. Families seeking golden sands and gentle waves will find solace at Las Teresitas, while El Médano Beach is a haven for wind and kite surfing.
Tenerife’s natural swimming pools offer a unique way to connect with the ocean in a sheltered embrace. The Paseo La Jaquita Natural Swimming Pools present a serene swim near Los Gigantes cliffs.
The Bajamar Natural Swimming Pools offer refreshing freshwater baths nestled by the ocean, with a lighthouse nearby. The El Pris Natural Swimming Pool merges with the open sea during high tide, making for a lovely aquatic escape. There is plenty of parking here, and several great restaurants for enjoying Tenerife’s fresh seafood.
Volcanic rock formations can be found in the island’s natural lagoons, creating safe swimming areas. Families will enjoy exploring El Caletón in Garachico, a unique collection of lagoons originated from past volcanic eruptions.
Other attractive coastal destinations include Charco Los Chochos in Los Silos, where visitors can snorkel and swim; Charco De La Laja in San Juan de la Rambla, a peaceful paradise during low tide; El Charco de Don Gabino in Los Silos offers clear waters and lots of space for quiet relaxation; and El Charco del Viento in La Guancha, a hidden gem among the banana plantations, with crystal-clear waters and awe-inspiring Mount Teide views.
While exploring Tenerife’s coastline, north to south, there is such a range of options — beaches, pools and lagoons — travelers will find it hard to choose just one.

Mar 1, 2024Down to Earth: Find Your Element for the Ultimate Customized Spa Experience at Chuan Spa
After a stressful pre-holiday season and a busy work schedule, there was no better time for a relaxing spa experience than during my recent trip to Pasadena with the FXExpress Publications, Inc. team. We headed to The Langham Huntington, Pasadena for the 20th anniversary of the GT Tested Reader Survey awards, which meant a jam-packed trip, but I managed to carve a little time out of our busy schedule to visit Chuan Spa at the hotel.

Come Face-to-Face with Mountain Gorillas on a Trek in Uganda
Not a word was spoken as I settled into a cozy spot on the outdoor terrace just outside the main lodge at Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge in Uganda. The air was so still the ice in my single malt seemed to echo off the forest in the distance as it clanked against the glass. I sat among a handful of fellow adventurers, each sitting silently beneath the night sky for one collective goal. Moments earlier, we learned a troop of mountain gorillas had made their way down the mountain near our lodge, and we left our meals to instead sit in eager anticipation of hearing the guttural grunts of the primates below. The chills on my arms never left me that night, even as I made my way up a stone pathway to my personal banda (guestroom). Thankfully, sleep came quickly for me that night as I drifted into dreams of what my next day would bring.
