Dinner at Herb & Wood
Most of my recent blogs covered our recent family trip to San Diego, and they related some of the sights and activities we enjoyed with our young granddaughter. We did take time to enjoy a few grown-up evenings, however, when our daughter and son-in-law and my husband and I traded off childcare duties while the other couple dined out. After Jenny and Josh returned from a meal at Herb & Wood (I have to admit I heard the name of the restaurant as "Urban Wood"!) raving about their fantastic dinner, Harry and I decided we'd also give it a try later in the week. We did not regret that decision.

Kicking Around Belmont Park and La Jolla
Our family trip to San Diego was intentionally a pretty low-key affair, with several half-day rambles to nearby attractions and neighborhoods that offered points of interest to everyone in our party, from our two-year-old granddaughter to we senior citizens. One morning we drove over to Coronado and cruised around a bit, found a fun playground for June and then visited Coronado Brewing Company's Coronado Brew Pub for some cold ones and a casual, kid-friendly lunch.
Zoo Days in San Diego
As soon as we began planning our trip to San Diego with our daughter's family, we knew the San Diego Zoo was one must-visit stop. Jenny and Josh have taken little June to their hometown zoo, the Oregon Zoo, several times in the past three years, and she enjoys every visit. Josh purchased two-day passes online, allowing us to visit on any day of our choosing during our week in San Diego, and we could visit both the Zoo and the Safari Park, located in Escondido, about 35 miles north of San Diego. The more we thought about it, though, we decided June would better enjoy two more leisurely days at the Zoo rather than a long drive and a generally greater remove from the animals at the Safari Park.
