Nobu Hospitality recently announced plans to open two new Plaza Athénée Hotels in New York City and Bangkok, both slated for 2026. Developed in partnership with AWC, the properties will bring a new level of luxury to iconic heritage buildings.
The new Plaza Athénée Nobu Hotel and Spa New York will lie in the historical Upper East Side near Central Park, while Plaza Athénée Nobu Hotel and Spa Bangkok will be found in the best location by the Chao Phraya River in Thailand’s capital.
Nobu’s inaugural hotel in New York will include 145 room keys, including suites with unique indoor and outdoor glassed terraces and gazebos. The property will also feature a townhouse with exclusive service, providing travelers with a private sanctuary. Guests of the new property will also enjoy access to a traditional Japanese onsen, spa and wellness center. Nobu’s signature dining experience will also open in the property, where guests can indulge in a Nobu omakase experience, along with access to a bar and lounge. A rooftop area for private events and parties with views of the city only add to the luxury hotel.
Like its New York counterpart, Plaza Athénée Nobu Hotel and Spa Bangkok will also offer world-class food and beverage experiences and luxury amenities. The hotel will transform the building where the East Asiatic Company was founded in 1884, emerging as a modern and sleek space.
“We are profoundly grateful that AWC has entrusted us with the development of two of their most valuable properties, in the most iconic buildings and historic areas of two exceptional cities,” said Trevor Horwell, CEO, Nobu Hospitality. “We are privileged to collaborate closely with the AWC team, led by visionary CEO, Khun Wallapa Traisorat, who is spearheading an exciting and innovative approach to the hospitality industry. The Plaza Athénée Nobu Hotel and Spa Bangkok and the Plaza Athénée Nobu Hotel and Spa New York will redefine the standards of luxury and sophistication not only in Thailand but also in the U.S. This partnership allows us to embark upon an extraordinary journey together.”

Mar 1, 2024Down to Earth: Find Your Element for the Ultimate Customized Spa Experience at Chuan Spa
After a stressful pre-holiday season and a busy work schedule, there was no better time for a relaxing spa experience than during my recent trip to Pasadena with the FXExpress Publications, Inc. team. We headed to The Langham Huntington, Pasadena for the 20th anniversary of the GT Tested Reader Survey awards, which meant a jam-packed trip, but I managed to carve a little time out of our busy schedule to visit Chuan Spa at the hotel.

Come Face-to-Face with Mountain Gorillas on a Trek in Uganda
Not a word was spoken as I settled into a cozy spot on the outdoor terrace just outside the main lodge at Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge in Uganda. The air was so still the ice in my single malt seemed to echo off the forest in the distance as it clanked against the glass. I sat among a handful of fellow adventurers, each sitting silently beneath the night sky for one collective goal. Moments earlier, we learned a troop of mountain gorillas had made their way down the mountain near our lodge, and we left our meals to instead sit in eager anticipation of hearing the guttural grunts of the primates below. The chills on my arms never left me that night, even as I made my way up a stone pathway to my personal banda (guestroom). Thankfully, sleep came quickly for me that night as I drifted into dreams of what my next day would bring.
