Arrival/Check-in: Arriving at a Four Seasons property is much like stepping into your own personal musical. My experience at the Four Seasons Chicago began just outside the entrance on East Delaware Place. I was fumbling with my cab receipts as the driver was cursing at me for paying with a credit card. Suddenly, my door flew open and a smiling doorman extended his hand to magically whisk me out of the cab. He kindly took my luggage and advised that he would have it delivered to my suite at once. At this point, I could practically hear the orchestra kicking off its musical number as I waved goodbye to the cab and whistled my way to the lobby on the seventh floor. Check-in was swift and easy. I was escorted to my room, and my luggage arrived promptly. Complimentary fruits, chocolate and bottled water arrived shortly after. (30/30)
Guest Quarters: On the 35th floor of the hotel, the view is what truly made the room. Upon entering my corner suite, I was dazzled by the view of the city in front of me. As I rounded the corner, a breathtaking vista of Lake Michigan (about as blue as the Caribbean) welcomed me into my tranquil bedroom. My suite provided a bedroom with a queen bed and a separate office with a sofa and minibar. I made use of the iPod dock and office space. Each room had a flat-screen TV and cushioned window seats. The bathroom had a stand-alone shower and a separate soaking tub, but bathroom amenities were sparse. (28/30)
Services/Amenities: WiFi was available in my room at no charge. Service in the hotel was excellent, and the staff was most accommodating. Aside from in-room dining, the hotel offers an array of dining and cocktail options. The Café is available for all-day casual dining, while The Seasons Restaurant guarantees an unforgettable evening accompanied by live piano music and a grand water fountain. The Seasons Lounge is perfect for afternoon tea or evening jazz by the fire. (29/30)
The Experience: At the Four Seasons, you know what to expect. The staff is truly eager to please and very helpful when it comes to questions. Although this is one of the tallest buildings in Chicago, the suites of the Four Seasons give a very private, secluded feeling, like having one’s own personal oasis in the sky.

Come Face-to-Face with Mountain Gorillas on a Trek in Uganda
Not a word was spoken as I settled into a cozy spot on the outdoor terrace just outside the main lodge at Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge in Uganda. The air was so still the ice in my single malt seemed to echo off the forest in the distance as it clanked against the glass. I sat among a handful of fellow adventurers, each sitting silently beneath the night sky for one collective goal. Moments earlier, we learned a troop of mountain gorillas had made their way down the mountain near our lodge, and we left our meals to instead sit in eager anticipation of hearing the guttural grunts of the primates below. The chills on my arms never left me that night, even as I made my way up a stone pathway to my personal banda (guestroom). Thankfully, sleep came quickly for me that night as I drifted into dreams of what my next day would bring.
