San Diego Is for Taco Lovers

Delicious seafood taco.

Food is my passion. That’s an understatement. It’s one of the best ways you can experience different places you visit and understand the culture.

Living in Long Beach makes my drive to San Diego just short enough that I am willing to take a drive down for a quick visit. San Diego’s culinary scene is quite impressive. I’m not saying Mexican food is the best it has to offer because that is certainly not the case, but I’m a sucker for tacos. I recently visited two pretty popular spots and, I have to say, they are worth a visit next time you’re in sunny San Diego.

Lucha Libre Taco Shop

The shop is quite easy to spot.

The vibe here is everything lucha libre, Mexico’s infamous wrestling. It offers just the right amount of nostalgia for epic wrestlers like El Santo. I stopped for lunch and tried the esquites, corn kernels with cheese, tajin and lemon. On the taco front, I had to try the seafood taco and classic Cali taco, which comes with fries (a signature San Diego touch).

The Taco Stand

Step into The Taco Stand.

This gem will transport you to an old town taqueria. Everything is made to order. You can tell in the freshness of the tortillas. That is where the base of a good taco begins, then comes the fillings and then the salsas. These tacos already come with all the flavor you need, though, so the salsa bar was pretty unnecessary for me except for limes.

Featuring al pastor fish taco and mushroom tacos.

You’ll have no problem finding the restaurant with the crowd outside the small establishment.

Thanks for stopping by!

Fukui: A Culture Hub in Rural Japan Worth the Detour

In many cases, less can be more in terms of what smaller cities and small-scale museums have to offer. This is true for Fukui Prefecture, located on the west coast of the main island and best known for its coastline, terrain and quiet towns. While major cities are awash with large-scale museums, bucolic Fukui Prefecture is worth a visit for its assemblage of institutions offering a deeper dive into Japanese life, history and culture.
