I had just moved into our new house in North Carolina on Friday when we heard a call to action from our community. They usually have a Memorial Day parade complete with fire trucks, bands — the whole shebang. But with COVID-19 restrictions, it wasn’t allowed this year. The residents refused to let the important holiday go without some sort of celebration to honor fallen military, so they called on anyone in the neighborhood who had a cool car — antique, classic or sports car, but all cars welcome — to join a Memorial Day Car Rally. So we joined almost 30 other residents with our 1960 Porsche and went on a nice tour of the neighborhood, greeted by residents waving their flags in front of their houses or gathering on street corners, enjoying the last-minute car parade and honoring the fallen. It was a nice welcome to North Carolina!
