First Time in Disneyland

by Mary Melnick

Jul 5, 2021

Disneyland Disneyland Last week I went to Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure park for the first time. Throughout the past couple of years, I have been to Walt Disney World in Florida countless times; I even worked there for about a year, so I am familiar with those parks. One of the things I was looking forward to most was comparing the difference between the two parks and seeing how similar the rides are in both parks.

DisneylandSince the park’s reopening, it operates on a reservation system. When you purchase your tickets for the park, you have to reserve the days you plan to visit. If you buy Park Hopper passes, you must specify which park you plan to visit first that day. We made our reservations for three-day Park Hoppers and alternated which park we started in each day.

A couple days before we went, the parks lifted the mask mandate, so it was nice to not have to worry about wearing a mask the whole day in the heat. Throughout my visit, I saw plenty of people wearing masks and plenty who were not, all depending on preferences. I personally didn’t wear one and felt safe the whole time.

There were a couple rides that were similar to the ones I am used to at Disney World but with some minor adjustments. Some I liked better in Disney World, and others I liked better in Disneyland.

DisneylandOverall I enjoyed my time at Disneyland and had a bunch of fun with friends I hadn’t seen in more than two years. The weather was nice; it was hot, but unlike Pennsylvania there was no humidity, so it was more tolerable. One of my favorite rides in the two parks was Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! This ride recently took over the original Tower of Terror.

Even with all the craziness going on in the world right now, I am glad I got to make the trip to California, Disneyland and to see some of my long-distance friends. I can’t wait to go back.

We headed to The Langham Huntington, Pasadena for the 20th anniversary of the GT Tested Reader Survey awards, which meant a jam-packed trip, but I managed to carve a little time out of our busy schedule to visit Chuan Spa at the hotel.

Fukui: A Culture Hub in Rural Japan Worth the Detour

In many cases, less can be more in terms of what smaller cities and small-scale museums have to offer. This is true for Fukui Prefecture, located on the west coast of the main island and best known for its coastline, terrain and quiet towns. While major cities are awash with large-scale museums, bucolic Fukui Prefecture is worth a visit for its assemblage of institutions offering a deeper dive into Japanese life, history and culture.

The Argosaronic Islands Are Calling

The Saronic or Argo Saronic Islands of Greece call travelers to explore its seven small islands and islets brimming with history, natural sites and more. With most easily accessible by boat, the islands’ proximity to ports of Athens make the Saronic Islands an ideal destination for those preferring shorter boat rides. In fact, trips from Athens ports to the islands take only between 10 minutes and two hours, depending on the island you choose, making them perfect for day or weekend trips. From Piraeus port, you can access Hydra, Spetses, Aegina and Poros directly. Come explore these stunning islands with us and find the inspiration to plan your next trip to these islands. Hydra Hydra town curves around a slope overlooking the Argosaronic Gulf like an amphitheater and is considered one of the most romantic destinations in Greece. Most unique to the island is its lack of vehicles. People on the island get around on mules and donkeys as well as water taxis, making for a peaceful and laid-back day. Hydra lies a two-hour ferry ride from Piraeus port in Athens.
