My second trip in the month of March was a “first” as I flew south to Charleston to celebrate my boyfriend’s sister’s bachelorette party! Jackie is getting married next month, and to commemorate her soon-to-be marriage, she invited her bridal party and closest friends down south to celebrate.
The long weekend was spent exploring the charm of Charleston from King Street, where our sweet, modern and bright-blue Airbnb was. There was a lot to pack into the three-day getaway. Some highly recommended stops we made included Vendue Rooftop for orange crushes, Millers All Day for brunch, and Bourbon n’ Bubbles for live music. We also toasted to Jackie at a fancy group dinner at Stars Rooftop & Grill Room. I loved the seared tuna and cornbread dishes. I will say, however, my favorite meal had to be the private dining experience we booked for our first night in town. Chef Lauren Furey set up her mobile kitchen right in our Airbnb and cooked us a five-course meal with the soul of Charleston in mind, all gluten-free for our bride. Lauren was amazing and made the most incredible apple bacon jam crostini.
Another memorable addition to the bride-to-be’s weekend itinerary included a group cycling class at Jibe Cycle Studio. This boutique spin studio was super-cute and offered a great 45-minute workout. The instructor gave us killer energy at 9:15 a.m., leaving us refreshed and ready for brunch. If time allows, I recommend adding a group activity like this to your plans. It was definitely a nice break from the eating and drinking bender.
What I loved about Charleston, and especially King Street, was the mix of visitors and locals. From students at College of Charleston to visitors on a weekend getaway to the many other bachelor/bachelorette groups, there was really something for everyone. I loved the bright colors of each storefront down King Street, lined with palm trees, truly offering a diverse selection of cuisines, luxury shops, home décor storefronts and more.
There is still so much good food and shopping to do in Charleston, which leaves me no choice but to return on another girls’ trip or weekend getaway. I am always glad to cross another new town or trip off my bucket list. What trips do you have coming up?

After a stressful pre-holiday season and a busy work schedule, there was no better time for a relaxing spa experience than during my recent trip to Pasadena with the FXExpress Publications, Inc. team. Feb 26, 2024Fukui: A Culture Hub in Rural Japan Worth the Detour
In many cases, less can be more in terms of what smaller cities and small-scale museums have to offer. This is true for Fukui Prefecture, located on the west coast of the main island and best known for its coastline, terrain and quiet towns. While major cities are awash with large-scale museums, bucolic Fukui Prefecture is worth a visit for its assemblage of institutions offering a deeper dive into Japanese life, history and culture.

Come Face-to-Face with Mountain Gorillas on a Trek in Uganda
Not a word was spoken as I settled into a cozy spot on the outdoor terrace just outside the main lodge at Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge in Uganda. The air was so still the ice in my single malt seemed to echo off the forest in the distance as it clanked against the glass. I sat among a handful of fellow adventurers, each sitting silently beneath the night sky for one collective goal. Moments earlier, we learned a troop of mountain gorillas had made their way down the mountain near our lodge, and we left our meals to instead sit in eager anticipation of hearing the guttural grunts of the primates below. The chills on my arms never left me that night, even as I made my way up a stone pathway to my personal banda (guestroom). Thankfully, sleep came quickly for me that night as I drifted into dreams of what my next day would bring.
